Awaiting the January Gov's Proposed Budget for '10-11

On Nov. 18th, the state's Legislative Analyst's Office announced their forecast of a $20.7 billion state budget deficit for 2010-11. This is a concern for schools statewide, since schools have already suffered such devastating cuts last year, including an 18% reduction in state funding (revenue limit). The next step in the budget development process for school districts, is the Governor's Proposed Budget in early January. Stay tuned and look forward to being part of a letter campaign, to our legislators, in January.

Meanwhile the Legislative Team is planning Advocacy Day, our annual bus trip to Sacramento, to be held on Wednesday, Feb. 17th. Register today!

ACA 9 (Huffman) Local government bonds: special taxes: voter approval
Support

This measure would create an exception to the California Constitution and allow the ad valorum tax on property to go above the current stated 1% of the property’s value….ad valorum taxes need 55% of voter approval

SCA 9 (Ducheny) Finance: State budget taxes
Support

Existing Constitutional provisions require each house of the Legislature to pass a bill appropriating money from the General Fund by a 2/3 vote…..this would change to a 55% vote in each house.

Note: this is only a sampling, for more information refer to the State PTA website
